Meshing complex parts is a complex task.

SDT focuses in structured meshing. femesh and feutil provide a number of tools for mesh manipulation and generation. Basic 2D unstructured quad meshing is provided in fe_fmesh.

Unstructured meshing from CAD definitions beyond the scope of SDT since the required libraries would be at least as SDT itself. FEMLink provides interfaces with a number of FEM formats so that you can import models all the most popular CAD/meshing environments. For less demanding tasks, we also provide an interface with GMSH.
